You’ve probably noticed that sunglasses have many different color lenses, but you may not know why. Different color lenses serve a variety of purposes, especially when it comes to reflecting light in certain conditions.
Dark color lenses
Dark color lenses like green or brown are neutral in color, so they reduce brightness without affecting the color of your surroundings. They cut down on glare in bright conditions and keep your eyes from getting tired.
Yellow lenses
Yellow and gold lenses are better for lower-light conditions because they improve your depth perception when the light is flat.. Usually you will want to use them in snowy, overcast conditions when it isn’t overly bright.
Rose lenses
Reddish lenses are for low light conditions when you need more contrast. Use these when you are skiing when it’s cloudy or when you are hiking in shaded woods.
Mirrored lenses
Mirrored lenses are best for reflecting light in bright situations. Nothing is better for reducing glare in high light conditions than a mirrored lens.
So how do you choose the right one? If you are outdoors a lot, and you do a number of different activities, you may want to invest in a variety of sunglasses with different color lenses. That way, you will always have the right color lens for whatever you’re doing.
