Sunglasses in the Winter Months

November 22nd, 2012 | Posted by shopbyus in Uncategorized

Do you think that just because days are shorter and the temperatures are colder that you don’t need to wear sunglasses?  Think again, because the winter months are prime time for protecting your eyes.  As a matter of fact, it’s even more important for you to wear sunglasses in the winter time.  Here’s why.

The Sun in the winterThe sun may not be scorching overhead during winter, but it’s still out, and it’s still bright.  Not only that, it is still radiating out those harmful UV rays that are detrimental to your eyesight. UV protection is a year-round need, and the only way you’ll get it is with the correct pair of high quality sunglasses.

If you do a lot of skiing, or if you live in an area that gets a lot of snowfall, then you know how blinding the bright sunlight can be when it reflects off the snow and ice.  It’s almost like having two suns hitting you at the same time. Sunglasses in a sunny, snowy environment are a necessity.

But, before you think your summertime shades are going to cut it in the colder months, you need to think again.  In order to get the best possible protection, you need to make sure your sunglasses are optimized for winter wearing.  Lighter lenses are a must for those days when the sun is out, but it’s not overly bright.  Polarized lenses are also good for eliminating harsh reflections from the lower-lying sun.

When snow or skiing is in the picture, you need to plan according to the type of sunlight you’ll be dealing with.  Bright, harsh sun requires darker, mirrored lenses, while rose and yellow tints can help improve your vision on an overcast day.  Either way, you should make sure you get as much UV protection as possible – preferably lenses that provide 100% protection.

Most of all, don’t settle for no-name, generic brand sunglasses.  Many of those will not have the full UV protection you need – plus, they will be made from cheaper materials that won’t last as long.  You can save money by buying higher quality, authentic name brand sunglasses from a website like shopbyus.com.
